FAQ

1What is an ambulatory surgery center or an ASC?
An ambulatory surgery center (ASC), or simply a surgery center, is a modern health care facility offering outpatient, same-day surgical care. Riverfront Surgery Center is a brand new, state-of-the-art facility offering the very best in surgical care, and it is physician-owned and operated. Riverfront will provide outpatient procedures for spine, joint, and pain management, as well as other orthopedic procedures.
2Is it safe to have my procedure done at an ASC?
Yes! In fact, studies have shown that surgery centers have better patient outcomes, fewer infections, and faster recovery times for patients than hospital-based surgeries (The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery). Plus patients are less likely to need hospital care the week following their procedure.
3What makes Riverfront Surgery Center a good place to have my surgery, pain treatment, or other outpatient procedure?
Our surgery center is physician-owned and operated. Our first priority is to give our patients exceptional care. Because we are independent and we own our facility, we can easily and quickly make any changes we need to ensure your satisfaction. We also need to reschedule or delay operations less frequently than in a hospital because we are not using the same facilities that emergency procedures may need.
4What kinds of services do you provide?
Each of our physicians offers different services and treatments. You can read each doctors’ bio and services on our Physicians page. Generally speaking, our physicians offer pain management procedures, orthopedic surgeries like hip and knee replacements, and spine procedures such as fusions as well as treatments for herniated discs, just to name a few.
5How do ASCs help to lower health care costs?
ASCs are historically much more cost efficient than hospital facilities. This enables surgery centers to provide services to patients and insurance companies at a significant cost savings. Depending on your insurance plan, this can impact your out-of-pocket costs significantly. In one analysis of Medicare cost savings, ASCs are linked to more than $4 billion dollars in saving every year and that number is expected to rise. Download the study here.
6Can I book an appointment directly with the surgery center?
If you would like to have your outpatient procedure performed here you’ll need to be a patient of one of our distinguished physicians. Talk to your primary care physician about a referral to one of our specialists. If you don’t have a primary care doctor, we would encourage you to check with your insurance provider to see if you need a specific referral from your primary care doctor to see one of our specialists.
7What are some of the benefits I can expect at Riverfront Surgery Center?
Along with the overall benefits of using a surgery center like better outcomes for patients, we’re easy to find with plentiful parking. You can easily be dropped off at the door and we’ll meet you with a wheelchair if needed. Our patient waiting area is comfortable, calming and convenient.
8Do you have overnight facilities in case I can’t go home after my surgery?
Yes! In the unlikely event that your surgeon determines that you can’t go home on the same day as your surgery, we have overnight facilities and staffing. We’ll keep you comfortable and under observation until you can safely return home.
9Do all your physicians operate exclusively from the Riverfront Surgery Center?
No. Some surgeries cannot be performed at a surgery center and must be performed at a hospital facility for patients who may need multiple days of recovery time, special therapy or follow-up procedures. Your physician will help you determine the best option for you.
