What to Expect
New Patient Info

Below you will find helpful information that will guide you through the patient and surgery at Riverfront Surgery Center.  If you have any questions please contact us and we’ll be happy to assist.

Your procedure at Riverfront Surgery Center, an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), may involve a number of separate and distinct services that will be billed.  Please review the current list of insurance plans and payment options we accept. If you have any questions please contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Payment Options

Our facility accepts most major commercial insurance, HMO/PPO plans, Medicare, Worker Compensation, Personal Injury, and other government sponsored health coverage. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding your insurance coverage or to see if you qualify for Charity Care.

What to Expect

Surgical Journey Explained

1 - 2 Weeks Prior to Surgery

  • You will receive a call from our pre-admission nurse to review your medical history and arrange for any necessary testing prior to surgery
  • You may be asked to stop taking blood thinners and/or other medications.
  • Let your doctor know if you are experiencing any fever, flu-like or COVID symptoms.

Day Before Surgery

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 hours prior to surgery.
  • No tobacco or nicotine use 12 hours prior to surgery.
  • Ask a responsible adult (18 or over) to drive you to and from your appointment.



Night Before Surgery

  • No eating or drinking 8 hours prior to scheduled surgery time.







Morning of Surgery

  • Bring insurance card, ID, and list of medications.
  • Do not wear any make-up, jewelry, or hairspray.
  • Do not bring anything valuable with you (i.e. wallet, phone, laptop, etc.)
  • Wear something loose and comfortable.
  • Wear glasses (bring your case) instead of contacts.
  • If you have sleep apnea and wear a CPAP, bring it with you and leave it in the car.
  • Bring any braces, crutches, slings, etc. that your doctor has prescribed for use after surgery.
  • Upon arrival you will be given the opportunity to discuss pain management options with the anesthesia provider.

Anesthesia

  • Anesthesia is used for the relief of pain and sensation during surgery.
  • We offer five types:
    • IV sedation
    • General
    • Regional
    • Local
    • Topical
  • Your Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist will explain, discuss and help determine the type of sedation/anesthesia best suited for you and your procedure.






Post Surgery

  • You will be monitored and cared for by our PACU nurses.
  • Your recovery time will vary depending on your procedure and type of anesthesia used.
  • Upon discharge you and your responsible party will be given written instructions for at home care.
  • Your surgeon may prescribe appropriate pain medication to take after surgery.
  • You will receive a call the day after by one of our nurses to check on your progress.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience any severe pain or complications once you arrive home.
